Hydration Shirt

I need tips on surviving band camp?
I live in Florida and I go to band camp real soon. It is extremely hot and humid during August (It’s 80 degrees right now and I’m indoors!) and I need tips on how to survive the heat and all that marching. I’m a student leader, but this is actually my first year marching. The last 2 years I’ve played pit percussion, but now I’m playing piccolo. The previous years during band camp, I’ve been mostly indoors, but this year I’m going to be out marching for most of the day. We get water breaks and we can drench ourselves in water, but that only works so much. I also have a hydration backpack to keep water in and am probably going to wear a light t-shirt and shorts every day.
1. Eat a good breakfast, but nothing that will make you sick when you’re out in the heat. Maybe have a bagle and an apple.
2. Wear sunscreen!!! And to help out with preventing the awful “feet tan line”, put ALOT of sunscreen around your ankles, and wear really low cut socks. I hate having white feet, but it comes with the package….haha
3. Wear light clothing, maybe a light pink or white t shirt, a tank top, or someting of that nature. Definitely wear soffee shorts….they’re the best for any activity. Make sure you were very comfortable tennis shoes. I LOVE new balance shoes. They’re light weight and provide great support. Plus they’re really cute.
4. Since you haven’t actually marched before, make sure you pay attention to everything they say. When someone demonstrates how to do something, you need to look exactly like them. But you probably already know this from being in pit!
5. Be prepared to run and exercise! Our pit never had to run or do pushups. But we surely had to run a mile everyday, then we did pushups, situps, etc.!!!! But it feels really good afterwards and it will make your band better overall! So I suggest getting started on working out on your own, so that when you get to camp, you won’t feel so out of shape! lol
6. During breaks, drink plenty of water and gatorade. And try to snack on some fruit. Sit down whenever you get the chance.
7. Wear bug spray!!!!!!!!! Mosquitoes are so annoying when you’re standing at attention and stuff!!! So please get some bug spray.
8. Bring extra clothes to change into later during a lunch break or something, so that you can feel clean and fresh throughout the camp day. Bring deoderant, body spray, and face cleanser.
9. Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
