Hydration Pack Cycling
What do you think is better for keeping hydrated while cycling, a hydration pack or water bottle?
Hello,
I am deciding whether to take my hydration pack or water bottle on a bike ride coming up soon. I tend to find that when I wear my camel pack I get a big sweat patch behind it, and when i use a water bottle, the water doesn’t stay cold for long.
so i am switching back and forth between my camel pack and the old fashioned bottle on the frame.
what do you rather and what are the pros and cons of each?
Do you have a different way of keeping hydrated while riding?

I have two water bottle cages on my bike. I use the bottles for shorter rides (20 miles or less) and the Camelbak for longer rides and tours.
I notice the little sweat patch where the pak is too, but it’s nice to have the water and not have to stop as much when I want a drink.
Sometimes I’ll use both, and have an electrolyte drink in the bottle(s) and water in the pak. Camelbak even makes tablets to drop in the hydration pack that are like “gatorade” type drinks.
I’d say it’s whatever you’re most comfortable with. I personally don’t bother with the pack on shorter rides, however.

Large Hiking
When hiking I get at least 5 large bites (not mosquitos) no matter *what* I do to prevent them. What gives?
I like to hike “off the trail”, so I know that puts me at more risk for biting insects. But nonetheless, I tuck my socks into my long pants, where long sleeves, and spray 95% DEET all over my lower legs/ankles, arms, neck and even my face. I’ll even wrap a bandana around my neck to keep spiders and such from falling down my shirt. Still, even if I”m in the woods for just an hour or two I have like 5-10 large (1″x1″) bites on my chest and back. Mosquito bites I get are always small and last only a day or so. I’m not highly allergic to them. So I have no idea if spiders are biting me out there or what. Any ideas?
I feel your pain…I have the same experience just going outdoors in the summertime, sprays don’t work, etc. Two ideas: ticks and/or chiggers. Chigger-bites sometimes form a little blister on top the following day or days, recommend daubing with alcohol, popping the blister, put a blob of neosporin on. A tick will stick to you and get large enuf to be highly visible… Chiggers can get in ANYWHERE, no matter what you wrap up in or what you spray on yourself. I hate summertime.

Hiking Red
Are there many deer ticks in the Nevada area?
I went hiking today at red rock, and back at my family’s house. I saw a bug crawling beside me and try to catch it with a napkin. It got away, but I don’t think it was an ant, it looked more like a tick/spider. I am not sure how common lyme disease out here? I can’t find it which makes me wonder.

Im going on my first camp on friday with the ACF for the weekend what type of bag do i put my stuff in?
a small suitcase ? or a backpack? i havnt got a proper army/camping bag what do i use?

I would go with a duffel bag if you have one. it is the closes thing that you can get to a Sea bag or army bag. If you don’t have a duffel bag you can get them at wall mark i got a large black one for under $15.

How to clean hiking boots?
I just got back from camping and I was using a new pair of leather hiking boots. Some of the trails were pretty dusty. What’s the best way to clean my shoes?
I use a a dry toothbrush. It gets all the dirt off and doesn’t damage the leather. I also have some synthetic shoes which I just use water and the toothbrush on. Works well.
